Job Description Team Penske is seeking a Race Engineer to lead overall IndyCar vehicle performance at races and test events. This role involves vehicle setup, driver coordination, data analysis, simulation, and development planning to optimize performance. The ideal candidate combines motorsports engineering expertise, trackside experience, and strong analytical and leadership skills to drive competitive advantage. Responsibilites Directly responsible for assigned IndyCar overall car performance, traveling to all Race and Test events. This includes but is not limited to: • Vehicle set-up and final build including mechanical, aerodynamic and gearing changes. • Liaison for coordinating with assigned driver, ensuring they have required information pre-event, managing driver feedback and coaching during events, and driver performance analysis post-event. • Create and issue job lists to car chief for items required before, during and after events. • Create fault lists to issue to Trackside Performance Manager. • Create pre and post analysis reports on performance to help guide future development . • Understand competitor analysis and ability to find improvement areas. • Work with Trackside Performance Manager on the implementation of development items for test and race events. • Prepare overall race weekend run plans using pre-event race strategy plan including tire usage and event planning. • Participate in weekly engineering meetings, race weekend debriefs, and test debriefs to define development opportunities. • Participate and help drive vehicle simulation programs. • Understand and use offline simulation tools in preparation for events and development. • Participate in Driver-in-the-Loop simulation sessions for upcoming events and development. • As required, participate in and help direct 7-Post testing. • As required, participate in and help direct Wind Tunnel testing. • Work alongside assigned Performance Engineer to assign tasks and workload balance. • Follow technical specifications dictated by technical bulletins and car build specifications set forth by the team. • Responsible for determining and developing ways to improve overall Team performance. • Collaborate with other members of the engineering group to facilitate communication and development. Minimum Qualifications • The successful candidate will have at minimum a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, Master of Science preferred. • Motorsports engineering background. • IndyCar, NASCAR, IMSA, WEC or F1 championships preferred. • Minimum 3.0 GPA. • Minimum 6 years engineering experience in Race Engineering, Motorsport Performance, or related field. • Professional motorsports track experience. • Extensive knowledge of wind tunnel testing methods. • Extensive knowledge of vehicle dynamics. • Extensive knowledge of data acquisition, data analysis, and statistical analysis. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement required. • Strong management and organizational skills. • Effective communication and collaboration skills required. • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals. • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills, with a passion for developing team members required. • Experience with MATLAB and CAD software (NX, CATIA, Pro-Engineer, SolidWorks) required. Desired / Preferred Qualifications • Experience with data acquisition and test automation software • Knowledge of testing strategies and procedures • SharePoint experience • Microsoft Suite • PowerBi desired • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

Qualifications

  • Motorsports engineering background
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Minimum 6 years engineering experience in Race Engineering, Motorsport Performance, or related field
  • Professional motorsports track experience
