Job Description

About the position The Motorsports Dynamometer Integration Engineer at General Motors is responsible for integrating vehicles and components into the Full Vehicle Test Dyno hardware and software at the GM Charlotte Technical Center. This role focuses on ensuring a productive test environment while adhering to safety protocols and supporting the expansion of the test cell operations. Responsibilities • Translate Test Request features to appropriate measurements using best practices. , • Design or engage Design Group resource to devise mechanical fixtures used to secure, adapt to, and measure UUT fulfilling test request and safety standards. , • Source fabrication resources to manufacture fixtures and special tools. , • Install and calibrate UUT actuator servos. , • Document UUT installation, instrumentation, and integration lessons learned for each UUT session. , • Produce statistics and reports for internal and external use. , • Collaborate with Race Test Cell Automation Engineer to configure data busses, measurement signal paths and logging of UUT measurements. , • Design, construct and troubleshoot wiring interconnecting the UUT and facility systems. , • Work with procurement group to estimate, order, schedule and maintain UUT instrumentation and fixture inventories required for continued operation of schedule. , • Complete and record required hazardous communication approvals for lab chemicals. , • Maintain good housekeeping. , • Maintain adherence to environmental requirements for area. , • Aid preventive maintenance of Cell and supporting facility. , • Support the development of processes or tests to meet customer requirements. , • Prioritize work and provide excellent customer satisfaction for all incoming jobs. , • Be available to work alternative shift or weekend schedule required to support 24/7 operations, if needed. , • Assist with vehicle install and uninstall activities in the Cell. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field of study. , • 5 years of experience in professional motorsports vehicle and/or engine development. , • 3 years of experience professional racing track support in IndyCar, Sportscar, IMSA, or NASCAR. , • Extensive knowledge of high-performance racing powertrain function application and tuning. , • Experience with engine combustion testing systems. , • Considerable knowledge of the maintenance and repair of Dyno Lab tools and equipment. , • Understanding of Control System design and tuning: PID Controllers and VFD's. , • Exceptional mechanical skills. , • Experienced configuring and using CAN communications. , • Ability to read engineering drawings. , • Proficient computer skills including Professional Motorsports Controls Applications: Bosch, McLaren, Cosworth (Pi), Dyno Acquisition applications: Puma, Concerto, Indicom, Microsoft Office including Power BI and VBA, the C programming language, CAD software, moderate-level fabrication and manual machine shop skills. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field of study
  • 5 years of experience in professional motorsports vehicle and/or engine development
